All children are natural learners, with a highly sophisticated capacity to learn. If you doubt this, stop and reflect on the number of words your child has in their vocabulary. As educators and parents, we can be sure that we assisted in some of this language acquisition, however, it is important to recognize that by the age of ten most children know 20,000+ words, most of which, they acquired on their own (Merritt, 2016). http://ctserc.org/component/k2/item/130-typical-speech-and-language-deve
Students who achieve high marks have not always mastered the curriculum. Conversely, not every child who does poorly on a test or assignment does not understand the content. During this session, I will assess your child's level of understanding within their grade-appropriate curriculum. Special attention will be given to assessing math, reading, writing and comprehension competencies. I will then create and deliver an individualized learning plan.
Working in groups of five, I will lead and support the children as they collaboratively take on real-life mathematical challenges in order to develop a solid mathematical mindset. This class will challenge the students to push themselves beyond their current mathematical understanding by fostering critical thinking and discussion. The students in these groups will be assessed prior to being placed in a group to ensure that they are placed with the best possible collaborators.
These one on one sessions will help your child start the year off right, or get back on track. I have helped many students apply my study techniques in order to succeed in exam and test-taking. I will work with your child's teacher to ensure I know your child's testing schedule. I will also work with your child's teacher to help them better understand how your child learns, and how to support your child during testing.
These one on one sessions are designed to explore and help your child move beyond the barriers that are standing in the way of their academic success at school and at home. These sessions explore learning environments and practices at home and at school that inadvertently cause negative experiences for your child. Stressed minds operate in survival mode, not learning mode.
Through the exceptional research and findings of Michael Halliday (1978), we know that we all use language for very specific gains. By observing the language your child most commonly uses, we can determine areas where your child requires more language experience. To be an effective communicator it essential for children to have a solid mastery of all functional forms of language.
Through custom sessions, I help children reach their unique potential.
